Last week I went to the tropical paradise of Jamaica to photograph the beachfront destination wedding of Nicole and Mark at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites resort in Montego Bay. The weather was perfect throughout the week, and though rain clouds threatened to bring all events indoors, mother nature was kind enough to relent and allow the ceremony to go on as planned. I wasn’t worried though. Nicole and Mark, of Chicago, are such a fun couple that had the wedding been held in a basement it still would have been a great time. Fortunately, it was not. The slightly overcast skies actually did what no amount of rum drinking could do (we tried) by helping to keep everyone cool and comfortable during the ceremony, which took place on the water’s edge and was witnessed by 47 lucky friends and family members who took the week to fly down and join them. The wedding was the peak of a relaxing several days spent sipping rum by (and in) the pool, snorkeling and going on excursions to nearby waterfalls and dive sites. Following the ceremony, everyone moved inside to party the night away at one of the resort’s many restaurants. With under 50 guests I was concerned the dance floor would look kind of empty, but the couple keeps lively company and most were on their feet, and sometimes their backs, throughout the night, as you can see. The following day we set out to “mess the dress,” which was accomplished by having the couple first dash into the Caribbean and then plunge into the pool, after, of course, showering the sea salt out of their clothing. It was a hilarious end to a perfect week. Not one’s to rest, while the guests returned home Sunday to take a much needed vacation from their vacation, Nicole and Mark gave themselves only a 12 hour turnaround between arriving back home in Chicago and setting off on their European honeymoon, where I imagine they’re dancing the night away at this very moment.
